From the moment I started reading this short story I was reminded of O. Henry's stories. Clever and very well written, nevertheless a very predictable outcome.I received a free copy of this book in order to evaluate it.

I thought the concept of this book was interesting upon reading the description, and I was forewarned about the length, but I thought this short story was more like an executive summary of a full novel, a quick summarization of a plot that - if developed - could have been an interesting story. As it is, the story - about a woman who derives pleasure from another person's pain - is predictable and I knew the ending almost from the very beginning.
I would not pay for this book - but while it is free, it's a quick read.

Mrs. Schadenfreude is short, but well-written, and well-paced. While the ending is easily guessed early, the story continues to be enjoyable to read until the sudden ending. I liked the story idea, but it could have used a bit more depth. I especially enjoyed the men of the story and would have liked to heard just a little more about them.

A very short book, you can read it in one sitting. About a woman who really enjoys elaborating on her neighbor's possible marital problems, she likes being 'in the know'. The only thing is, what she doesn't know may very well put her in the limelight!

the plot of the story revolves around one very catty two-faced woman who secretly relishes in her friend's perceived misfortune. It is a very short read.I guessed the ending early on, still it kept me going as the build up well written. When the ending did come it came as a surprise , I was riding on public transportation and said outloud to my self "that's it? " I think that this short story could be fleshed out to a longer length . Perhaps the dynamics of the marriage between the catty woman and her milk-toast husband could be further developed. I think the story at its current level is only worth .99 cents.
This is a short story about a group of friends and the gossip that arose when one of the set is discovered to not have quite `the perfect marriage' the rest of the group have envisaged. From there the group have fun speculating what they think has happened to a former `perfect' marriage.
It was very easy to read and I liked the narrative being from Mrs Kincaid's point of view, the nosy friend who wants to know what happened to her old friend's marriage and what transpires when Mrs Kincaid starts digging into private lives.
As a short story it was very enjoyable with all the loose ends tied up and a satisfying ending.

I was drawn to this book as my honours thesis was on schadenfreude. This was a very short story - I was finished within 20 minutes. It was about a woman who was very happy about her friend's misfortune. She went on to tell everyone else about it and felt great being centre of attention. It was very predictable - from about half way through you knew how it was going to end.
It's great for a quick, free read - so get it whilst it's still free. I wouldn't pay 99c for a book that is so short.

I was given this story to review and am glad I did. I've always been fascinated with the way women acted in the fifties, especially those with money and prestige. The little cliques and gossiping about you're supposed best friend behind their back to all their friends and yours. I really enjoyed Mrs. Schadenfreude and actually was surprised at the ending. It was a really nice read,and you get a sense of the characters in the story without a great deal of in depth description. The one thing i loved the most is be very careful enjoying your Schadenfreude about another person, since it might come back to bite you like KARMA!
